New Palm
My Sony Clie died a horrible death yesterday.  Actually it didn't really die, it just freezes whiling trying to bootup, so it's more like it suffered a debilitating stroke.  As a result, I'm now in the market for a new palm.  It inconveniently died  the same day I got my new cell phone so a Treo isn't really an option.  I mostly  used my old Palm for scrabble so I'm not really interested in the bells and whistles of the more expensive models?  Do people have any experience running scrabble programs (Lampwords, Road Lingua, Supermemo) on the $90 Palm Z22?

my Travis is a z22, and he runs all of those programs just fine. freezes about once every two weeks, but a soft reset has always brought him back to life without a problem.

Good to hear. My main concern was that Supermemo would be problematic or awkward with just two buttons. Now I need to buy one and get everything installed so I can try to finish the pre-Arden review I was in the middle of when it died.

the middle button reveals the answer, and the side to side lets you judge the cards - i don't have a problem with the setup, but it's also the only one i've known. there are really five buttons - the middle one, and then up, down, left, right built around it (plus the shortcut buttons).

Yes, 5 buttons, and the Z22 is used by a lot of Scrabblers. It's probably its usual $80 or $82 at overstock.com; check it out.

This might actually be a good reason to talk to Al. He tends to stockpile these things and will go ahead and install the programs for you.

But then again it's Al, soooo....

I'd prefer to buy new than negotiate with Al. For an extra $10 I can get a 2 year warranty at Best Buy which seems prudent given it's unlikely to last that long.

False alarm. It's working again. The battery had drained down overnight, and when it still wouldn't bootup, I figured it was done for good. But when I got home this evening it was working again. Everything had been erased, but after syncing, I didn't lose much. I'm feeling very lucky and relieved right now.
